You can choose from three types of maternity courses: “Body,” “Body & Head,” or “Body & Oil Foot.”
All of them are performed only in side-lying and supine positions so as not to put pressure on your abdomen or baby.
* Guests who are not in the stable phase are kindly asked to refrain from this course.
* The Oil Foot option does not use reflexology or “reflex zone” theory.
* The time allocation between Body & Oil Foot and Body & Head is decided together in consultation with you.
* Before receiving treatment, pregnant guests are asked to sign
this consent form (Japanese).
Please read it before making a reservation.
Common discomforts during pregnancy
While you are pregnant, the baby in your belly can compress the blood vessels around your abdomen, which tends to slow blood and lymph flow. This often leads to swelling in the legs, or night-time cramps in the calves, and as your abdomen grows heavier, you may also experience lower back pain, shoulder stiffness, and pain in the upper and mid-back.
By improving circulation and relaxing tight muscles through massage, we aim not only to ease these specific discomforts, but also to reduce overall stress by relieving the burden on your body.
We believe that when the mother’s body and mind are relaxed, it supports the healthy growth of the baby as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is massage safe during pregnancy?
With our method “Deep Muscle Approach,” we have never had any reported negative effects on either mother or baby. At the same time, we pay close attention to the following points:
・We avoid applying focused, strong pressure on acupoints that are said to require caution during pregnancy.
・We work only in positions that do not put strain on the mother’s body.
If you feel unsure, we recommend obtaining approval from your doctor before booking.
Can I receive treatment if I’m not yet in the stable phase?
Ideally, we would like you to be able to receive massage whenever your body feels uncomfortable, even if you are not yet in the stable phase. There are no confirmed data or reports proving that “massage causes miscarriage.”
However, we understand that if a miscarriage were to occur, many people might emotionally associate it with having received massage. For this reason, as a rule, we limit this course to guests in the stable phase of pregnancy.
At Nagomi Sakuradai, all female staff have experienced childbirth themselves, so as an exception, guests who are not yet in the stable phase may also be accepted there.
Are there cases in which I cannot receive treatment?
As a general rule, we cannot provide treatment in the following cases:
・You have been instructed by your doctor to rest or remain on bed rest.
・You have had threatened preterm labor or miscarriage within the last two weeks, or are suspected of such.
・You have pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, placenta previa, deep vein thrombosis, monochorionic multiple pregnancy, or other illnesses currently under treatment.
Does massage affect the baby?
It is said that the mother’s emotional state directly affects the baby. By relieving uncomfortable symptoms through massage, we hope to ease the mother’s stress and thereby support the baby’s healthy development.
To avoid putting pressure on the abdomen and baby, all treatments are performed only in side-lying and supine positions.
I heard there are acupoints that should not be pressed during pregnancy. Is it really safe?
There are several acupoints (such as Hegu, Jianjing, Sanyinjiao, Taichong, and Yongquan) that are said to possibly induce uterine contractions, labor, or miscarriage if strongly pressed at a single point during pregnancy.
These points can be both “risky” and also “good for smooth delivery,” and there are no definitive medical data proving that pressing them will cause miscarriage.
However, because the impact is not fully understood, we take extra care and avoid applying strong, focused pressure on these areas.
I cannot lie on my back for long. Can I still receive treatment?
Basically, we use side-lying as the main position and add some supine work only within a comfortable range. If lying on your back is difficult, it is also possible to receive treatment entirely in a side-lying position. Please let your therapist know during the session.
I don’t want my pelvis area to be touched. Is that possible?
Before starting the session, we always ask about your physical condition and which areas you would like us to focus on. At the same time, you can tell us which areas you do not want us to touch. If you prefer that we avoid the pelvis area or any other region, please mention it to your therapist.
Will a female therapist always perform maternity treatments?
As with other treatments, maternity sessions are usually provided by both male and female therapists. If you prefer a female therapist, please book with a “female staff request” when making your reservation.
Is massage also okay after giving birth?
Yes, you can receive massage not only during pregnancy but also after childbirth. If your breasts are producing milk or feel painful and tight, we can perform the session only in side-lying and supine positions. Please feel free to consult your therapist about your situation.
Our thoughts for maternity guests
I have given birth to three children. The discomfort I felt during pregnancy in my hips, lower back, legs, and back is something I will never forget, and I know exactly where it feels best to be pressed.
I gave birth at a clinic that offered oil treatments for pregnant women. Since then, I have continued to study how to help expecting mothers relax through oil treatments, and I now also offer original blends tailored for pregnancy.
Back then, there were very few massage salons that would accept pregnant guests, and I remember how hard that was. I hope I can support you even a little in having a smooth and comfortable pregnancy.
During my second pregnancy, I suffered from severe shoulder stiffness and leg swelling and rushed to Nagomi thinking “Somebody please help!” – I was actually one of the maternity guests myself. (laughs)
When I first received Nagomi’s maternity course, I was deeply moved both in body and mind by the firm, sustained pressure of the Deep Muscle Approach that truly reached my knots. That’s when I decided: “I want to do this wonderful work,” and that’s why I am here now.
With every single press, I put my heart into the treatment. By softening the body and improving circulation, we help more oxygen and nutrients reach the baby. I want you to spend these precious days of pregnancy with as little discomfort as possible.
I truly hope that as many moms-to-be as possible can experience Nagomi’s maternity course.
My wife gave birth to our three children. During each pregnancy, she often asked me, “My lower back really hurts, can you massage me?” and I happily answered, “This is exactly when my skills as a therapist are needed!” and worked on her tight lower back and shoulders.
I believe that going through the maternity period with as little stress as possible is directly connected to raising a healthy child, so I tried to walk alongside her as a team throughout the process.
I am a massage therapist, but most partners are not. Please feel free to leave the bodywork to us. We also share simple massage techniques that family members can safely do at home.

For your comfort, we ask for payment before the session so you can simply relax and enjoy your tea afterwards.

- Soft, comfortable clothing prepared for you
-
We provide long-sleeved and long-pants loungewear for you to change into.
Of course, this is free of charge, so please feel free to use it.If you prefer not to change, it’s also fine to receive the treatment in the clothes you came in, as long as they are comfortable for you.

- Enjoy a cup of tea after your treatment
-
Please enjoy a cup of roasted brown rice tea after your session – it tastes especially good after treatment.
If you make your next reservation on the spot, we will add a 5-minute option free of charge.
After seeing you off, your therapist always writes notes in your chart about the content of the session and how your body felt, and uses this as a reference for your next visit.
In other words, we start preparing for your next “best possible treatment” as soon as you leave.
About the maternity massage course

- Oil treatment for the lower legs (below the knees)
[for Body & Oil Foot only] -
While you relax in a side-lying position hugging a body pillow, we perform an oil massage from the soles of the feet up to the calves.
By working with oil on the legs where waste products and fluid tend to accumulate, we promote blood and lymphatic flow.
This is not a painful or punishing treatment – the aim is to gently relax the muscles, improve circulation, and wash away the day’s fatigue.
Still, you will definitely feel a satisfying, “it really works” level of pressure.
This is not reflexology, so we do not work based on “reflex zones.”

- Side-lying Deep Muscle Approach [Body]
-
The treatment is performed almost entirely in a side-lying position. By applying pressure while you lean into a body pillow, we can deliver effective, deep pressure while allowing you to fully relax. Even with a large belly, you can receive the treatment without any abdominal compression.
We use body weight to apply sustained pressure, so the work is strong yet safe and does not injure the body.
Body work is included in all three menus: Body, Body & Head, and Body & Oil Foot.

- Head treatment [for Body & Head only]
-
We perform a head massage using our dry head spa technique, which is especially effective for stress.
We place our fingers directly on the scalp and slowly, deeply move the tissues between the scalp and skull.
Most guests fall into a deep sleep as if they’ve lost consciousness.
The dry head spa is done in a supine position, but if it is uncomfortable to stretch your knees straight, we place a pillow under your knees.
